About us

Even though Bellatrix is only in her ninth year of existence, she has made her mark at the NWU-PUK. We refer to ourselves as the Campus Residence in town because we offer you all the opportunities you will find at a campus residence but you live in your own pad somewhere in town. Every girl who joins Bellatrix is responsible to find a nest of her choice in town. Your options are endless: from your mom’s safe nest to student houses or your own apartment. When you then register at Bellatrix, you can take part in all activities of your choice.

Bellatrix ladies’ residence functions as one big, close-knit family. We are unique, energetic and passionate. Our main focus for 2012/2013 is to ensure that every member of Bellatrix is seen and appreciated. Therefore every residence member is important to us and we aim to help everyone develop to her full potential.

Bellatrix is one of the ‘bright stars’ in the heavens and is the Latin for ‘female warrior’. Therefore, if you want a true home at the Puk, Bellatrix is the place for you! We will help you find your niche at the Puk so that you can experience a unique and exciting student life – unforgettable, balanced and enjoyable!

Bellatrix competes, participates and achieves at all levels. In 2012 the residence attained many achievements and with you we plan to sustain these in 2013. It is here where you will discover the ‘culture vulture’ inside you, enthusiastically develop your sports talents and, of course, spread your social wings. We also have academic advisors who are available at all times to support and help you when you experience academic problems. In addition, our residence is deeply rooted in real life – it is here where we, as fellow-Trixies can bolster one another as girl friends, irrespective of race, colour, culture or background.

We can proudly state that we stand our ground at all levels. The residence is managed by a group of extremely competent and enthusiastic House Committee members who each attends to her particular portfolio. Without the guidance of our residence parents, Prof Chris and tannie Martha van der Walt, the HC and the residence simply won’t be the same. Bellatrix is very fortunate to have such ‘parents’ who are always there for us and involved in everything.

Our residence is also based on spiritual values and therefore we see ourselves as female warriors with our eyes fixed on God: women who know and love God. We cannot wait to meet you. Bellatrix is our passion – make it yours too.
