NWU once more of the best in the country

North-West University (NWU) has for the fifth consecutive year been nominated one of the five best Graphic Design Training institutions in the country. This year NWU missed the top position (held by Tuks) with only four points.
  The announcement was made during the South African Brand Design Council’s annual Sappi Thinkahead award in Johannesburg.

An outstanding participant at this year’s Sappi Thinkahead Awards is Helene Botha (second from the right). With her are her lecturers, Richard Strydom, Ian Marley, Wessie van der Westhuizen and (at the far right) Cashandra Willemse.


  This year students of NWU Puk also walked off with two of the eight merit awards, ten of the 25 silver awards and a gold portfolio.
  The merit awards were presented to Helene Botha and Claudette Maskell. Botha also received three silver awards and her portfolio was commended a gold portfolio.
  The other silver awards were made to Marina Herbst (2), Suen Muller (1), Carla Nel (1), Claudette Maskell (1) and the groups Helene Botha, M Aucamp and Z Benade, as well as Carla Nel, Claudette Maskell, Sanke Weyers and Güte Immelman each won a silver.
  The Sappi Thinkahead award was begun in 2002 with the aim to create a platform for final-year design students to exhibit their talent to future employers.
  The adjudication was done by a panel of high-profile experts in the design industry of South Africa. The guidelines for the adjudication are based on international standards.
