For the first time, Prof. Franci Greyling of the School of Languages tried her hand at a radio drama and won the prize with Radio Sonder Grense and Sanlam’s radio drama competition. She received R7 000 for her drama, Die vye is ryp.
Greyling is the writer of children’s and youth narratives such as Die meisie van Melrosehuis, Vleuels soos die arende en Formule drie, twee, een! She is the founder of Storiewerf, a website for children’s and youth books and young writing talent, which she has maintained for nearly eleven years. Some of her children’s poems have been included in the new Kinderverseboek and she herself also makes art books. Greyling is a former winner of the Sanlam prize for youth literature, and of the Volkskas prize.
She is involved in several creative and writing projects, including formal teaching at under- and postgraduate level, non-formal creative writing courses, community projects and interdisciplinary creative and research projects. Activities linked to making books and telling stories by means of which participants are creatively involved often form part of the projects.
In 2009/2010 she spent three months at the Internationale Jugendbibliothek in Munich as international research fellow where she especially looked at creative picture-books.
