National Science Week Kicks off on Mafikeng Campus

The National Science Week kicked off on the Mafikeng Campus on 30 July 2012.  The Week is an initiative from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) to celebrate Science countrywide and to promote greater awareness and appreciation of the contribution that Science and Technology makes to the nation.

Learners from Grade 9 to Grade 12 from different schools in and around Mafikeng were invited to participate in various scientific topics and activities at selected venues on the Campus.

The learners were reminded that the main objective of the Science Week is to stimulate their minds and the influence science has on our daily lives.  They were further encouraged to enroll in greater numbers for Science Engineering and Technology careers when they move to tertiary institutions.

This is another initiative the NWU undertakes to address the national priority with regard to scarce skills and to encourage learners to further qualify in areas such as mathematics and science.
