As part of the mission of the North-West University, MUSA aims to enhance through research appropriate use of medicine in South Africa. The OVERALL GOAL of MUSA is to investigate appropriate medicine usage patterns in both the public and private health care sectors in South Africa and certain SADEC countries.
The mission of MUSA includes the following in order of importance:

To conduct relevant research on the appropriate use of medicine in both the public and private health care sectors in South Africa and certain SADEC countries.

To provide post-graduate possibilities to build capacity in pharmaceutical research and to promote future advances in this area of research.

To develop staff members as scientists and scholars with national and international recognition as experts in their fields with emphasis on the scientific development and NRF rating.

To publish and disseminate research findings so as to advance knowledge of relevant target groups, workshops, scientific reports, conference contributions and publications in national and international journals.

To optimise the quality of research outputs and post-graduate training, evaluated on an annual basis.

To provide a source of expertise and assistance to the community, the pharmacy profession, health care provider organisations, statutory councils and others on matters of research and knowledge in this field.
