Community engagement office
The purpose of the Community Engagement Office is the following:

To ensure alignment of all community engagement projects with the vision and mission of the NWU.

To position NWU as a CSI implementation agent of choice by
- Assisting corporations to plan long-term strategies for sustainable corporate investment. The focus is on Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment legislation and specifically the legislated 1% contribution that companies must make to CSI.
- Enabling communities to enhance their skills, lifestyles and community environment so as to stimulate social entrepreneurs with a positive economic impact in the region and society as a whole.

To promote, facilitate and coordinate relevant community projects that are conducted by members of the NWU on behalf of the university.

To assist in forming partnerships with all relevant stakeholders and to facilitate the implementation of expertise from the pool of intellectual property within the NWU.
The external focus of this office is to:

Expand the implementation of expertise, both commercially and community-directed, for the benefit of the province, the country, the SADC region, the continent and ultimately the world.

Ensure that positive relationships are built between community engagement practitioners in the local community and the NWU.

Facilitate and negotiate for funding of community engagement projects with government and the private sector in collaboration with the Institutional Advancement and Business Development office of NWU.

Facilitate the Forum for Continuous Collaboration in Development (FCCD), in conjunction with the Institutional Advancement and Business Development Office. The purpose of this forum is to advance understanding and cooperation between all NWU participants and external allies and stakeholders within the district and region, for maximum impact.
Internally, the focus of this office is to:

Implement relevant community engagement projects.

Provide an implementation framework for projects by positioning them as part of the core business of the NWU (i.e. implementation of expertise).

Annually publish a brochure containing an overview of all community engagement projects of the NWU and its various campuses.

Assist line managers to manage community service projects as part of individual performance agreements of staff.

Assist line managers to ensure that effective in-service learning processes are implemented by the NWU in the community.

Investigate and design specific ways in which the impact of the community engagement projects can be measured.

Review the quality management system and procedures, to ensure that projects are accountably managed in terms of quality, delivery, expenditure, sustainability, monitoring and evaluation
