Academic achievers home at the Vaal Triangle Campus

The senior management of the Vaal Triangle Campus of the North-West University recently celebrated the achievements of first year students who passed the 2011 national senior certificate examination with four or more distinctions.  This annual event provides an informal platform from which management can interact with the new students and motivate them to persistently continue on their journey of academic achievement.

During the event the Campus Rector, Prof Thanyani Mariba congratulated the students on their choice to study at the North-West University and invited them to embrace all
opportunities that will come their way and henceforth enjoy an unmatched student experience.

In her address the Vice Rector, Prof Linda du Plessis shared her excitement regarding the new academic year with the students whilst relating the fact that the campus had a 84% pass rate at the end of the previous academic year – an achievement contributed to an intensified commitment from both staff and students.

A total of 42 first years received four or more distinctions in their final school exam adding up to 185 distinctions in total.

During a special celebratory lunch members of the senior campus management congratulated several first year students on the good results they obtained during the senior certificate examination in 2011. Members of the campus management included Prof  Herman van der Merwe (Dean of the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Information Technology), Prof Thanyani Mariba (Campus Rector), Prof  Linda du Plessis (Vice Rector), Prof  Tinie Theron (Dean of the Faculty of Humanities) and Mrs Elbie Steyn (Registrar).
