In addition to the training and advisory services offered, the CEM also conducts applied research in various sub-disciplines of environmental and sustainability management, such as:

- Environmental law and policy; 

- Environmental and sustainability management issues at the municipal level; 

- International and regional (SADC) environmental law;

- Integrated Management Systems; and 

- Corporate social responsibility and sustainability.
