RECORDS MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATION

Services

The department Records Management and Administration is responsible for providing the following services and support to the NWU management and administration:

#  Records Management in terms of the Records Management Policy of the NWU.

#  Management of policy processes at the NWU in terms of the Policy on Generation  and Approval of Policies.

#  Presentation of short courses in records management to external institutions.

#  Administration of the Information Manual of the NWU and requests for access to information in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2 of 2000.

#  Administration of the ex-officio Commissioners of Oaths of the NWU.

#  Administration related to the submission of the Annual Report of the NWU.

#  Administration related to the institutional almanac of the NWU.

#  Provisioning of a mail and messenger service for the Institutional Office of the NWU.

#  Training in records management.

 

This department also provides training in records management. 

The short course “Nuts and Bolts of Records Management” is a registered short course based on unit standard 242866 and amounts to 6 credits on NQF level 3. It comprises a two day workshop, followed by a six month completion of a portfolio of evidence based on 8 assignments.  This short course is presented on an ad hoc basis as required by institutions and individuals.

The basic outcomes of this short course:

*  Explain the purpose of a records management system

*  Identify legislative and procedure requirements that determine records management

*  Operate a records storage and retrieval system (records classification systems)

*  Appraisal and disposal of records

*  Introduction to electronic records

Upon successful completion, the delegates will receive a certificate of successful completion. This will enable delegates to be responsible records managers, records officers, or administratively successful regarding records management in general.
