Department of Animal Science
Welcome to the Department of Animal Science
In the Animal Science Department, students receive high quality and relevant training on thescience of producing food animals important to man. The Department is committed to produce graduates that are competent in solving current and potential animal agriculture problems that reduce productivity in both local and international settings. Our training also has the objective of creating awareness of the environmental and ecological effects of common management strategies employed in animal agriculture. Students will be sensitized to the changing needs of the modern consumer in relation to animal products and how interventions can be used to meet these needs and produce animal products that satisfy consumer requirements. Modules are centered on the core sub-disciplines of animal nutrition, genetics and breeding, biostatistics and research methods, and animal physiology. In their final year, undergraduate students undertake a research project, which allows them to develop their research, oral presentation and writing skills.
